I want you to start thinking about hashtags differently. Hashtags are essentially Instagram’s huge filing cabinet and each tag is it's own folder. You want to make sure you’re organizing your posts in the most sensible, honest, and strategic way possible. Hashtags are a way of organizing your post by category, which allows others to find your content by searching for specific keywords, sound familiar? In other words, hashtags are search engine optimization for social media.
 
I’ve drawn out some basic Do’s and Don’ts of Hashtags. Pretty much every platform uses hashtags nowadays and these tips will work for any of them. However, for the purpose of this blog post, I will be focusing on everyone’s favourite, Instagram.
